The Story

This image is one of my recent favourites. It’s not from a stunning poppy field in a dramatic location, it’s just a little patch by the roadside! I was struck by the colour of them in the sunset and felt inspired by the creative challenge to make something beautiful in a place that would usually be ignored. Sometimes we all get caught up in the desire to travel to the most extreme destinations and to save our photography for then, but beauty is all around us in our every day lives.

The Story

I took this image on a bright summer morning in July in beautiful Richmond Upon Thames. Just after sunrise I stumbled upon a wildflower meadow full of poppies and huge bumblebees racing from flower to flower. I was inspired by the vibrant red of the flowers and the spirited flight of the bees. It made me think of spontaneity and also of a fierce joy and passion for life. The word 'Attraction' came to mind, and that is what I named the final image.

This image is another recent favourite. It was taken in Guildford as the last of the autumn leaves were falling. I caught sight of this bright little colourful leaf floating on the water with the reflection of the tree it fell from behind it. I thought it was a beautiful symbol of the circular nature of life and the connections between everything.

The Story

I was walking back to my tent through wet grass after a sunrise that had been mostly obscured by cloud in Cornwall. While I was walking, the clouds parted for a short moment and beautiful soft light fell onto these little buttercups in the grass and lit up the dew drops all around them. These little overlooked flowers in the dew were the most beautiful things I saw that morning and this photo always reminds me to appreciate the little things in life.

This photo was taken on a bright, fresh spring morning while camping with some friends in Cornwall. They all slept on happily in their tents while I explored the calm quiet of this beautiful natural area. There were no grand vistas here so it was a time to appreciate the beauty in the smallest things, in this case a single dewdrop on a blade of grass!
